I was at Lunds and they had a display of Local Products – great idea for people who want to support local products.

We have had this green LOCAL symbol posted near the shelf tags of our local products since last March; look for it in every aisle. We also have a list available at the customer service desk of our current local vendors, or you can download one here.

Did you know that co-ops have been labeling not only the country where your food comes from but also the state since long before other grocers were aware that this is something shoppers might want to know? The grocery industry has been fighting C.O.O.L, which stands for “country of origin labeling,” for the past several years, claiming it’s “too expensive.”

Ahem. If your neighborhood co-op can afford to do it, why can’t the big box grocer?
